What We Do

Custom Plaster provides conservation services for fine art and historic restoration projects including replicating architectural embellishments, designing new decoration, conserving murals, as well as applying decorative finishes and historically accurate specialty plaster finishes and paint schemes.

Our Beginnings

Greg Marsters created Custom Plaster in 1986. A plaster artisan and conservator, ceramist, painter, and replicator of Native American antiquities, Greg is a “process junkie,” influenced by his curiosity for anachronistic processes, earthen materials, and natural pigments sourced from historic locations. With over thirty years in plaster conservation, Greg is a leader in the field, having worked on some of the most architecturally significant buildings in the country.

Greg’s artistic interests began in early childhood. Growing up in a family valuing the arts, he made the most of every available art-related learning opportunity. This early immersion into art led to a lifetime of artistic exploration as evidenced by the many artists and artisans from around the world with whom he has studied.

Greg studied fine art at Treasure Valley Community College and Boise State University and, among professional experiences, participated in the creation of a true and dry fresco project with Professor Federico Bellomi of Verona, Italy (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federico_Bellomi). For the project, Greg served as artistic assistant to Professor Bellomi—installing a historically accurate 650 square-foot dry fresco in a private residence over a six-week period—and participated concurrently in a two-week seminar focused on historically accurate true fresco

Today, with a core team based in Boise, Idaho, Custom Plaster taps into its nationwide network of experienced craftsman with specialized talents to create groups of artisans with skills that best match each project’s characteristics. This clean, agile approach in forming teams brings a fresh, clear, and purposeful perspective to a project regardless of its location, scale, or complexity.
